It is crazy but true, but even in today’s age with all the information out there people still choose to drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This has very dire consequences not only for Las Vegas, but in many other cities around the US and even around the world.
It doesn’t help that Las Vegas does not have the best public transportation system known to man. In fact, our public transportation system leaves a lot to be desired.
If you have ever been to Europe, say Berlin or London, the first thing you will probably notice is the abundance of public transportation options available. You will also notice that the trains seem to run all the time over there. you might also notice that they drink a lot in those countries. I think they drink way more than even we do.
But they have a safer roadway than we do, with far fewer DUI drivers on the road. The reason for this of course is obvious: when they drink they have the option to use public transportation and not put anybody in harms way.
In Las Vegas, with the advent of Uber and Lyft, our options have gotten a lot better. I myself have used this service before and it is convenient, affordable, and I actually had a very nice experience. It felt much better than using the traditional taxi service.
My honest belief, is that Uber and Lyft have saved countless lives. I haven’t yet looked into the DUI statistics for 2016 and 2017 after the two Services were launched in Las Vegas, but I would venture to guess that the DUIs and DWIs are down because people drinking now have the option to use the services, and it’s affordable and easy to use.
As a Las Vegas DWI lawyer, I see these cases all the time. I hope for a day, soon perhaps, where I will no longer have a steady supply of DWI and DUI clients. We can all hope for safe roadways & driving in Las Vegas,
